At bedtime, while reading stories, I've been talking to Cole and Amelia about punctuation. Pointing out apostrophes and quotation marks and exclamation points all in the name of literacy. (Yes, I do realize they're only four and two...)
Anyway, earlier this week, I was driving Amelia to daycare in the morning and she was holding her doll in the back seat.
She declared suddenly, in her sing-song voice, "My dolly has eyes!"
"Yes, she does," I answered.
"And a nose."
"That's right. She does have a nose too."
"What are these?" she asked.
"I can't see, Amelia. I'm driving. Can you describe them to me?"
She thought for a moment then said, "They're..... eyes.... quotation marks!"
